Masks Are Optional ~ A Message from Fr. Doug: Masks are optional! I have patiently waited so long to be able to say this to you. We are seeing hope for the end of the COVID pandemic. As the numbers of infections go down, more of the faithful are being vaccinated, masking mandates are being lifted, and a greater sense of normalcy is returning. In light of these changes, the Diocese has revised its guidance to parishes to continue the positive momentum. Starting Saturday, May 29th, we will be “mask optional” in our non-social distanced area of seating. We will also provide an area of seating at each Mass that will be socially distanced (ropes up) and ask people to wear masks in that area for the safety of others. Masks are welcome and remain highly encouraged for anyone who feels more comfortable/safer wearing one while attending Mass. For now, the priest and deacon will wear their masks for the procession in and out as well as when distributing Holy Communion. Frequent touch areas (such as doors) will be wiped down after each Mass and the pews will be cleaned/sanitized weekly. For now, we will keep the hymnals at the doors as we continue to sanitize the church weekly (we do not want the sanitizing spray to damage our hymnals). We will begin putting holy water in the fonts at the door so that you may bless yourself when you come and leave. Note that this is always optional, you may simply bless yourself (without water) with the sign of the cross. The collection will remain at the door for now. For Communion, we will continue coming up the side aisles and returning down the center so that we continue to maintain good social distancing. In receiving Communion, we recommend you receive in the hand and those who want to receive on the tongue should come up last in line. Again, out of respect for those that have a fear of COVID from touching, we want to be as cautious as we can. Bishop Ricken’s "Dispensation from weekend Mass" is still in place as he realizes there are some who are still at great risk. Bishop will continue with his TV Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. This has been a great way to reach those that are unable to come to church. We will also continue our livestream of the weekend and daily Mass as it continues to reach many people. The office, will be mask optional. Our parish office is open from 8:00 until 12:30 p.m. with other times available by appointment. I have asked the staff to keep their masks handy so, that if someone comes in who is more comfortable with masks on, we can easily put them on. Keep praying for an end to the COVID pandemic, and healing for those in need. Fr. Doug LeCaptain P.S. Note that our weekday Mass schedule changes this week, June 1st. We will change our 9:00 a.m. Waldo daily Mass to 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at Waldo. This will ease the load on priests as we begin again our many nursing home Masses and allow time for wakes to start at 9:00 a.m. so that the funeral can be held at 11:00 a.m. Our weekday Mass schedule: Monday-Friday 6:45 a.m. Grand, Tuesday & Thursday 8:00 a.m. Waldo, and Tuesday 6:30 p.m. Grand.
